Reiki is a relaxation therapy that is used in Children's, Brigham & Women's, and Jordans' Hospitals, Spaulding Rehabilitation Clinic and Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Massachusetts by trained nursing and physical therapy staff pre/post surgery, during medication or procedures, and after chemotherapy. Reiki is taught to and used by doctors, nurses, and anyone who can benefit from it's natural healing abilities for themselves and to treat others. Reiki can be used to slow down bleeding, speed up the healing of wounds and broken bones, to reduce trauma and stress, and provide an overall sense of peace in the body.
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided energy."
A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results.
Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
An amazingly simple technique to learn, the ability to use Reiki is not taught in the usual sense, but is transferred to the student during a Reiki class. This ability is passed on during an "attunement" given by a Reiki master and allows the student to tap into an unlimited supply of "life force energy" to improve one's health and enhance the quality of life.
Its use is not dependent on one's intellectual capacity or spiritual development and therefore is available to everyone. It has been successfully taught to thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds.
While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not. Because Reiki comes from God, many people find that using Reiki puts them more in touch with the experience of their religion rather than having only an intellectual concept of it.
While Reiki is not a religion, it is still important to live and act in a way that promotes harmony with others. Dr. Mikao Usui, the founder of the Reiki system of natural healing, recommended that one practice certain simple ethical ideals to promote peace and harmony, which are nearly universal across all culturesReiki is provided through the masters/practitioners hands and given to the recipient which activates the natural healing ability in the recipients body and in the case of an attunement class, passes the ability to use Reiki to the student. The energy goes to the deepest level of the persons being where illnesses have their origin. It works where the recipient needs it most, releasing blocked energies, cleanings the body of toxins and working to create a state of balance. It reinforces the recipients ability to take responsibility for their life, and helps them to make the necessary changes in attitude and lifestyle to promote a happier and healthier life, Those who have studied Reiki also have in increased sense of intuition which can helps to guide and protect them in dangerous situations. Reiki has been used successfully to defuse volatile situations, clear negative energies in a room or space (either nearby or at a distance) and for personal and/or group protection. Reiki benefits police officers, firemen, EMS, and the US Armed Services in helping themselves, treating others, and getting a better understanding of situations.
For healing sessions, you remain fully clothed - we recommend a light-weight t-shirt and sweatpants or jeans and you remove your shoes. You lye on a massage table and receive Reiki on your head to abdomen (front side) and head to back (on your back side) either hands-on or hands-off. You may also sit on a chair and receive Reiki on your shoulders if you feel most comfortable this way.
For long distance healing the practitioner sends a prayer of healing to a name, place, and for the reason Reiki is to be sent.
Learn how to use Reiki on yourself, pets, friends, family, patients, accident victims and more by taking a Reiki I, II, and III (Master) class. Classes are taught either individually or in a small group of three.
